NCAABBRankings.com FAQHow is D Score Calcuated? D-score is a simple mathematical ratio for road wins, home wins and neutral wins then balanced to a teams RPI Rank. It has been replaced by E-Score a much more effective rating variable. How is E Score Calcuated? E Score is an interative process. Every team is assigned an initial decimal rating based upon their current D Ranking. Then we loop through all of the games previously played and add up the values of wins then renormalize the scores. This process is repeated until the change in scores is zero. What is RPI? RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is the calculation the NCAA tournament commitee frequently uses to determine which teams should be in the NCAA Tournament. It can be generalized as (1/4) a Team's Win Percentage, (1/2) a Team's Opponents' Win Percentage, and (1/4) a Team's Opponents Opponents Win Percentage. What is SOS? SOS (Strength of Schedule) is a derivative of RPI, calculated by (2/3) a Team's Opponents' Win Percentage, and (1/3) a Team's Opponents Opponents Win Percentage.
